  • Agency, temporary and placement staff

    This information is for anyone employed through an agency, working as a temporary staff member or placement staff at Manchester Met.

    What can I access?

    Print books and journals:

    You can use our books and journals within the library.

    You cannot use our Request It! service.

    Online resources:

    You can have Walk in Access (WIA) to online resources from PCs within the Library. WIA gives you access to a limited range of our online services.  You need to register for this service during help desk staffed hours each time you visit the library. You will need to provide two sets of ID including photo and proof of address.

    Access to Microsoft applications including Word, Powerpoint and Excel is not available.

    For free visitor Wi-Fi choose _BTWi-fi_ManMet from the list of networks on your device and click ‘Get online’ on your browser.

    If you are a member of an institution which has eduroam access you will be able to connect to eduroam in the Library.

  • Alumni

    Alumni membership is available to all graduates of Manchester Met.

    Membership is for three years and can be renewed after three years.  No charge is made for membership.

    What can I access?

    Recent graduates

    If you graduated in the last two years, you are entitled to access a range of additional online resources.

    Print books and journals:

    You are entitled to borrow up to ten of our two week loan books.

    You can use other books and journals within the library.

    You cannot use our Request It! service.

    Online resources:

    You can use our Walk in Access (WIA) service to access online resources from PCs within the Library. WIA gives you access to a limited range of our online resources.  You need to register for this service during help desk staffed hours each time you visit the library. You will need to provide two sets of ID including photo and proof of address.

  • Associate academics

    Associate academic or other visiting positions at Manchester Met, who aren’t directly employed by the University but work closely with a department for a period of time.

    Examples include:

    • Artist in Residence
    • Associate Academic
    • Collaborative Researcher
    • Emeritus Professor
    • Exchange Lecturer
    • Honorary Staff
    • Placement Teaching Students
    • Student Teacher Mentor
    • Visiting Lecturer

    What can I access?

    Print books and journals: 

    You are entitled to the full staff allowance for borrowing books. 

    You can use our Request It! service.

    You can use other printed items within the library.

    Online resources: 

    When your registration with Manchester Met is complete your university login will give you access to most online resources  including ebooks, ejournals and research databases. Licensing restrictions mean that you won’t be able to access some online resources.  You can request a current list of accessible online resources. Remote access to online resources is available 24 hours a day and in the Library during opening times.

    You can also use Walk In Access (WIA) to electronic resources when visiting the Library. WIA gives access to a slightly different range of online services using a temporary login on library PCs. You will need to register for this service at the library help desk during staffed hours each time you want to use it. You will need to provide two sets of ID including photo and proof of address.

    How do I join?

    Your Manchester Met sponsor needs to complete the designation of visiting positions procedure (link accessible to staff only) and when this is approved, your access to online resources is granted automatically. If you will need to visit the library in person and wish to borrow books, your sponsor will need to ensure that a staff email address is attached to your guest account. This will prompt the automatic creation of a library account and allow access at the gates.

    When can I visit?

    If the procedures above have been followed to gain physical access, your Manchester Met ID card will give you access to the library during our opening hours.

  • External students

    If you’re a student enrolled for a Manchester Met award at one of our partner institutions you are an external student.

    What can I access?

    Your home institution will provide most of your library requirements.

    Print books and journals: 

    You are entitled to borrow up to ten of our two week loan books.

    You can use other books and journals within the library.

    You cannot use our Request It! service.

    Online resources: 

    When your registration with Manchester Met is complete your university login will give you access to the online resources listed below. Remote access to online resources is available 24 hours a day. If you wish to visit the Library in person, please note our opening times.

    You will be able to connect to eduroam in the Library from your own device.

    If you have any questions about access to other resources you require please consult your institution’s librarian.

  • FE and Sixth Form College students

    Students at government funded Further Education Colleges and Sixth Forms with a current ID card can apply for an access pass.

    When can I visit?

    Saturdays and Sundays, 11am – 5pm, between the following dates:

    • Saturday 2 September - Sunday 17 December 2023  
    • Saturday 20 January - Sunday 14 April 2024
    • Saturday 25 May - Sunday 30 June

    How do I join?

    1. Download and print the application form
    2. Complete the form and ask your college library or reception team to apply the official college stamp to authorise your application
    3. Return your fully completed and stamped form to library@mmu.ac.uk.
    4. Upon receipt and checks, once your application has been approved you will receive an email. This email is your access pass and must be shown at every visit along with your college ID card.

    We aim to process your fully completed application form and email your access pass within 14 days. Please note, incomplete forms may cause a delay in receiving your pass. 

  • Members of the public

    Members of the public aged over 18 with a current public library card can visit.

    What can I access?

    You can use our books and journals within the library.

    You cannot use our Request It! service.

  • Overseas universities: students, staff and researchers

    Students, staff and researchers from overseas universities can visit.

  • SCONUL: full time undergraduates from other universities

    Full-time undergraduate students from other participating UK universities can visit.

  • SCONUL: other students, staff and researchers from other universities

    Undergraduate and postgraduate part time, distance learning and placement students, full time taught postgraduates, researchers and staff from other UK universities can visit.

    What can I access?

    You are entitled to borrow up to ten of our two week loan books.

    You can use other books and journals within the library.

    You cannot use our Request It! service.

    Online resources:

    You can use our Walk in Access (WIA) service to access online resources from PCs within the Library. WIA gives you access to a limited range of our online resources.  You need to register for this service during help desk staffed hours each time you visit the library. You will need to provide two sets of ID including photo and proof of address.

    When can I visit?

    Undergraduate and postgraduate part time, distance learning and placement students, full time taught postgraduates, staff and researchers registered for the SCONUL scheme can request a Manchester Metropolitan University library card by completing our SCONUL membership application.

    The application process will take 14 working days to complete. We will confirm whether or not your application has been successful by email.

    You will then be able to collect your card from All Saints Library. When collecting your card, you will need to show your current university ID card.

    Your Manchester Metropolitan University ID card will give you access to the library during our opening hours.

  • Staff in partner institutions

    This information is for people who work in one of Manchester Met’s partner institutions as:

    • Teaching staff with Registered Tutor Status (RTS)
    • Librarians who support students studying for a Manchester Met validated qualification

    What can I access?

    Print books and journals:

    You can borrow up to 30 books.

    You can use other printed books and journals within the library.

    You cannot use our Request It! service.

    Online resources: 

    When your registration with Manchester Met is complete your university login will give you access to some online resources  including ebooks, ejournals and research databases.  Licensing restrictions mean that you will not be able to access some online resources.  Resources which are unavailable to you will show an ‘Apologies’ page. You can request a current list of accessible online resources. Remote access to online resources is available 24 hours a day. If you wish to visit the Library in person, please note our opening times.

    You can use Walk In Access (WIA) to electronic resources when visiting the Library. WIA gives access to a slightly different range of online services using a temporary login on library PCs. You will need to register for this service at the library help desk during staffed hours each time you want to use it. You will need to provide two sets of ID including photo and proof of address.
