Your library is open

Your library is open. There are some differences to keep us all safe.

Safety measures

Our main priority is to make the Library service work for everyone whilst keeping people safe. Below are some of the things we are doing and how you can help us maintain a safe environment for all.

New services

We have implemented several new services where library staff will retrieve or scan items for you. This means you don’t need to spend time in the library browsing the shelves to find the books you need.

Study spaces

We have limited the number of spaces available throughout the library to ensure you can work in a socially distanced environment. Some of these will be bookable so you can plan your visit in advance. Capacity will be maintained by library staff to ensure the library does not become overcrowded.

Hygiene measures

The following measures are in place to keep you safe:

  • at least one hand sanitiser on each floor of the library;
  • wipe stations available to clean your keyboard or study space before you begin work;
  • key touch points in the library will be cleaned multiple times throughout the day;
  • Perspex screens at all Reception and Help desks to protect both staff and library users;
  • all returned books will be quarantined for 72 hours before being re-shelved.

Library staff

The physical Help desk will be closed but library staff are still available by phone, email or chat to answer any queries that you might have. There will be staff on Reception to support you with any quick queries.

Queuing System

At busy times you may be required to queue in order to access some of our services and allow for safe entrance and exit from the library to maintain social distancing regulations. This will be managed by a member of library staff.

Your responsibilities

The health & safety of students is our number one priority. We have put in place a range of measures to minimise the risks presented by the virus and to protect you.

Help us to ensure the library is a safe place by:

  • Following guidance on social distancing throughout the building
  • Wearing a face covering at all times when moving through the library space (unless exempt). You may take this off when sitting at your study space. Study spaces are set out to be compliant with social distancing guidelines.
  • Practising good hygiene including regular hand washing and using the hand sanitiser gel stations
  • Cleaning shared equipment such as PCs with the cleaning wipes provided
  • Bringing your own water (the water fountains will be out of use)
  • Bringing your own stationery. The libray is unable to lend pens or other stationery equipment.
  • Using our online services instead of visiting in person if you are feeling unwell or displaying signs of Coronavirus
