Open access

A guide to open access at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Funding for an APC

The University has created a fund to support the payment of an Article Processing Charge (APC) to make your research output immediately open access via the Gold open access route. The APC covers the cost of making your article open access. It does not cover general publishing costs such as overlength page charges or colour changes.

The APC fund is limited and you will need to justify using the Gold open access route and get authorisation from your Faculty Head of RKE. Your funder and publisher may require you to make your output Gold open access.

To apply for an APC:

1. Discuss publication options with your Faculty Head of RKE and/or Research Centre Head.

2. When support has been agreed, fill in the APC application form. The Library will process the payment.

3. The Library will seek formal confirmation from your Faculty Head of RKE.

Tracking APC costs

If you decide to pay for an APC using other Manchester Metropolitan University funds a SAP code for APCs has been set up which can be used with any cost centre: GL Code 751070 Article Processing Charges (APC)

Please use this code so that any APC payments can be tracked down and monitored through Manchester Metropolitan University’s finance systems.
