Information about software that can help you organise your references.

ACM EndNote instructions

These instructions will take you through the basic steps of transferring references into Desktop EndNote/EndNote Online. If you have any problems transferring information then please contact the Library.

Please note that it is only possible to download records one at a time.

EndNote Online

  • Run a search and click on the title of the record that you want to export.
  • Under Export Formats on the right hand side click on EndNote
  • A dialog box will appear containing the bibliographic data. Click on Download
  • When asked if you wish to save or open this file, select Save.
  • Save it to a place where you can easily retrieve it later and click Save.
  • Log in to EndNote Online, select the Collect tab and click on Import References.
  • In the File field, click on Browse and locate the file, which you have just saved. 
  • Use the drop-down menu in the Import Option field to locate and select the ACM Digital Library import filter. 
  • Either select the specific group you want to import the files to and then click Import or click on Import and the records will be transferred automatically into the ‘Unfiled’ group.

EndNote Desktop

  • Run a search and click on the title of the record that you want to export.
  • Under Export Formats on the right hand side click on EndNote
  • A dialog box will appear containing the bibliographic data. Click on Download
  • When asked if you wish to save or open this file, select Save.
  • Depending on your browser, either click on the download file near the bottom of your page (Chrome), click Open (Internet Explorer), or select Open With, then OK (Firefox).
  • The citation will be transferred directly into EndNote Desktop.
