Reading lists for staff

Providing resource lists online for the courses you teach.

Introduction

In order to add resources to the reading list system, you will need to either install the bookmarklet extension to your web browser or install the bookmark button to your favourites toolbar  The bookmarklet extension is a much simpler process but you can find guidance for both options below.

Bookmarking books & eBooks

  • This video will demonstrate how to bookmark books and eBooks in stock at MMU Library.  From the Library website, follow the link to the Library catalogue. 
  • In this instance, I am looking for books about women’s poetry. Enter your search terms and click on Search
  • Click on the title of the item you wish to bookmark.
  • Click Add to My Bookmarks in your Favourites toolbar.
  • If prompted to sign in, enter your usual MMU Username and password
  • Check the bibliographic information is correct.  Then click Create or Create & Add to List.

Bookmarking journal articles

  • This video will demonstrate how to bookmark journal articles, which MMU Library subscribes to.  Run a search on Library Search, in this case I am looking for articles about women’s poetry, and refine your search to journal articles.
  • Click on the title of the article you wish to bookmark
  • If prompted to sign in enter your usual MMU Username and Password.
  • You are aiming to bookmark the page containing the article or a link to the PDF of the article. Check that the URL contains the words ‘MMU’ and ‘ezproxy’.  If not and there’s anything that says “stable link”, “permalink” or similar, copy that link.  Click ‘Add to My Bookmarks ‘in your Favourites toolbar.
  • Click ‘Add to My Bookmarks ‘in your Favourites toolbar.
  • Check the bibliographic information contains the article author, date page range, volume and issue number.  Paste the copied link in the URL box if appropriate.  Then click Create or Create & Add to List.

Bookmarking websites

  • ‚ÄčTo bookmark a website, simply go to the website required. Click Add to My Bookmarks.
  • If prompted to sign in enter your usual MMU Username and Password.
  • Check the bibliographic information is correct. Then click Create or Create & Add to List.

Manually adding a bookmark

  • This video will demonstrate how to manually add a bookmark.  Click on My Bookmarks
  • Click Add, Add manually
  • You may wish to read the information before manually adding a new bookmark.  Select the appropriate resource type.  In this instance, I am going to add a website.
  • Enter the title of the website then select Add field. The more metadata you can provide, the better the chances of the user being able to locate the item.  For a website, the title and URL should be enough.  From the list, select web address and click on Add
  • Copy and paste or type the web address, then click Create or Create & Add to List

Bookmarking from Box of Broadcasts

  • This video will demonstrate how to bookmark TV and radio clips, programmes or playlists using Box of Broadcasts (also known as BoB).  Sign in to BoB using your usual MMU network id and password.
  • Enter the title of the item you wish to bookmark and click search
  • Click on the title of the item you wish to bookmark
  • Click Embed, select the WAYFless URL and copy the code. Click on Add to My Bookmarks.
  • Paste the URL over the URL in the web address box.
