Ebook Central

Download a chapter

To download a chapter, select the Chapter Download button then select the citation style you require and the name of the chapter you want to download and click Continue. This creates a PDF of the chapter, click Open PDF. Downloading will deduct the chapter from your print allowance, even if you don't print the pages.

The DRM restrictions on each ebook restrict the amount of content that you can print and copy when you read an ebook online. For most books the print/download limit is 40% and the copy limit is 20%. Similar restrictions apply when you read eBooks offline. These limits reset after just 24 hours

You may download an ebook from Ebook Central for one day (24 hours). Some ebooks are not available for download owing to publisher restrictions. You may read these ebooks online.

If all the downloadable copies of an ebook are in use?

Please use the Read Online link to view the ebook instead.

Do I require any additional software to read a downloaded ebook?

Yes. If you are using a personal laptop or a desktop (so not a Manchester Met campus computer) you will need Adobe Digital Editions. If you are using an iPhone, iPad or Android mobile device, you will need the Bluefire Reader app.

How to download

Once you have found an Ebook Central ebook you wish to download to read off campus.

  • Select  Full Download
  • Choose they type of device you are using
  • Install Adobe Digital Editions, if necessary, or select Done With this Step.
  • Choose the format PDF or ePub
  • Select Download Your Book
  • You will need Adobe Digital Editions (free) software and account to read downloaded titles on a personal laptop/PC. You will need Bluefire Reader (£4) and your Adobe ID to read on a mobile device. Ebook Central provides links to the software you need when you begin the download process.
