Covid–19 Library update

Important changes to our services. Find out more

Borrowing, renewals and reservations

About borrowing and returning books and laptops. Includes information about renewals, reserving books, fines, lost items and checking your library account.

Suspension of fines

As part of the Government's roadmap out of lockdown guidance, you are advised to minimise the number of journeys you make. We understand that you may not be able to visit the Library to return your books. Please don’t worry about this; your books will continue to auto-renew and we have suspended fines so you will not be charged.

Borrowing entitlements

You will need your University ID card to borrow items (such as books and DVDs) in the Library. Most items will be issued for 2 weeks and then renewed automatically on a weekly basis unless reserved by another customer.

Students (undergraduates and taught postgraduates) 30 items
Staff and researchers 30 items
External users 10 items

As well as the standard loan allocation, fully enrolled students and staff may also borrow the following items for the stated loan period. Laptops will not be renewed automatically and need to be returned to the self-service lockers or to the Library help desk.

Self-service laptop (24 hour loan) 1 item
Laptop (7 day loan) 1 item
