Ebooks on mobile devices

Accessibility

Senses logos Most mobile devices have inbuilt or downloadable features in order to provide greater accessibility.

As there are a vast range of devices with varying types of features this guide cannot cover all possibilities here.

Below is a brief explanation of key features on the main Apple and Android devices.

 

iPad

To locate the accessibility features on your Apple device go to Settings > General > Accessibility from the home screen.

Here you can enable various accessibility features for using e-books on your mobile device including:

  • Invert screen colour
  • Enhanced Zooming - increase text size (double-tap three fingers to zoom 200%)
  • Speak Select- synthetic speech (compatible only with downloaded e-book texts, in PDF format) 

Android

To locate the accessibility features on your Android device go to Settings > Accessibility from the home screen.

Here you can enable various accessibility features for using e-books on your mobile device, including:

  • Invert screen colour
  • Magnification - toggle zoom in and out by triple-tapping the screen, temporarily magnify what's under your finger by triple-tapping and holding digit to screen in required area
