Borrowing, renewals and reservations

About borrowing and returning books and laptops. Includes information about renewals, reserving books, fines, lost items and checking your library account.

About the reservation service

Our reservation service will be available only if you can’t access the items you need any other way.
Please use Library Search to search for library items. You can reserve an item by clicking ‘reserve’ next to the book you’d like to borrow.  We'll contact you when it's ready to collect from the Library.
Key points:

  • You can't reserve reference items.
  • We will email when your reservation(s) is ready to collect.
  • We will keep them on the reservation shelves for seven days.
  • Please issue reservations to yourself using the self-issue machines.
  • You may reserve up to five items.
  • If we do not stock the book(s) you need, try our Books buy you scheme (for students) or our inter-library loans service.

We ask that to keep yourself and others safe, please consider if the print items you require are for essential use. Search for your books and journal articles using Library Search to find out if an online version is available. If you can't find an online version of your journal or book, you can request the article or chapter you need using our Scan and Deliver service. We will send it to you via email.
