Borrowing, renewals and reservations

About borrowing and returning books and laptops. Includes information about renewals, reserving books, fines, lost items and checking your library account.

Rolling renewals

Items will be issued for 2 weeks and then renewed automatically on a weekly basis unless reserved by another customer.

We will notify you via your University email account when items are due for return so please make sure that you check your emails regularly. It is also advisable to regularly check My Library Account to monitor return dates.

If you don't return an item which has been recalled by the Library, you will be issued with an invoice for the cost of a replacement item.

How to renew items

Use your University ID and Library PIN to renew items online at My Library Account.

You will not be able to renew items if:

  • the item is reserved;

  • your account is blocked because of outstanding fines over £10 and/or very overdue items;

  • you have outstanding University fees;

  • the item has been renewed more than 99 times.

Important information about renewals

Please note that:

  • Inter-library loans cannot be renewed online. They have to be presented at the Library help desk.
  • We recommend that you renew in advance of the renewal date, to allow you time to return any items reserved by other users.
  • When renewing online on the day that items are due back, please do this before midnight. After this time they will become overdue.
  • Access My Library Account on the Library catalogue or MyMMU portal
