Inter-library loans

Get printed books, journal articles and conference papers from other libraries.

What are Inter-library loans (ILL)?

MMU staff and students can use the Inter-Library Loan service to request printed information such as books, journal articles or other kinds of material that are not held by the University Library.

How much does it cost?

£2 per request.  This is a non-refundable contribution to the administration cost of the service and is payable at the time of the request.

Please make sure that the item you require is not available in the Library before purchasing a voucher. Many of our journals are available electronically with full text access via Library Search.

Buy vouchers from the Library help desk in person or by post upon receipt of payment (cheques payable to Manchester Metropolitan University).

How do I make a request?

To request books, journal articles or other kinds of material that are not held by the University Library, you will need to:

  • Complete an Inter-Library Loan (ILL) form.
  • Sign the ILL. *
  • Buy a £2 ILL voucher, write your name and address on it and attach to the ILL form. Post or hand in your forms to your site library.
  • NB Forms and vouchers can be obtained from all MMU libraries in person or by post upon receipt of payment (cheques payable to Manchester Metropolitan University).

* Applications for articles cannot be processed without your signature.

How many ILL requests can I place?

  • Postgraduates: up to 5 items per week
  • Undergraduates: up to 3 items per week

Copyright

Please remember to sign the copyright declaration on the back of the ILL form.

How long will it take?

Leave plenty of time to get your ILL. We advise a minimum of 3 weeks.

All photocopies of journal articles and book chapters will be sent to your home address. Unfortunately, we are unable to post out books, but you will be notified when they are ready for collection.

Requesting articles/book chapters from another MMU site library

To request photocopies of journal articles or book chapters held at any MMU Library follow the same procedure.

Please help Library staff to process your application more swiftly by writing IN STOCK at the top of the form.

Requesting theses

Please consult EThOS if you require a UK Thesis.

Use the theses form if the thesis you require is not available via EThOS:
