Borrowing, renewals and reservations

About library fines

  • Please check your receipt for the due date and return or renew all items on time to avoid fines.
  • Fines are charged to encourage the prompt return of items so that other library users can access the materials that they need.
  • My Library Account is available 24/7 to check and renew your loans.
  • You may pay charges:
    • online via My Library Account with a debit/credit card;
    • at the Library help desk with cash, debit/credit card or Met Card;
    • by telephone on 0161 247 6106 using a debit/credit card.

Fine rates

Fines are charged at the following rates and apply to all library users.

Loan period Fine per item Maximum fine
One day loans £5 per item per day £30 per item
One week loans 50p per item per day £10 per item
Four week loans 20p per item per day £10 per item
Inter-library loans 50p per item per day £30 per item
NB: a British Library charge of at least £160.10 plus VAT may also be applicable for overdue ILL items.

Lost items

If an item on your record is lost, stolen or damaged then you will have to pay for a replacement copy.  Please report this to staff at the help desk as soon as possible so that we can arrange for an invoice to be produced.  You can also contact us by email or phone.  The invoice will include the replacement cost of the item plus a £5.00 administration charge.
